La verdad es que las cosas cambian mucho de Europa a Asia (y eso que se supone que estamos en lo más desarrollado de Asia). La primera impresión del país fue bastante negativa (y la segunda, y la tercera…).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;El viaje desde San Sebastián (EAS) hasta Taipei (TPE) duró aproximadamente 26-28 horas. Tuvimos que coger 4 vuelos (2 de Iberia, 2 de Cathay Pacific). Un chofer nos recogió en el aeropuerto internacional de Taipei-CKS y nos trajo a Hsinchu. En Hsinchu está la mejor univesidad de Taiwán, que se llama NCTU.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Estamos alojados en las residencias universitarias. La verdad es que las residencias aquí no son como en España; sobretodo en aspectos de higiene. La empresa para la que estamos trabajando aquí es GTMRI, Inc. No lo he actualizado desde que empecé el periodo de exámenes y aunque aún queden dos exámenes por hacer, va siendo hora de añadir nuevos contenidos a la web.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Hoy hablo de mi gran viaje, ¡el que emprenderé el próximo viernes! A finales de la semana pasada me confirmó los vuelos la agencia de viajes de Bankinter. Citaría todos los vuelos con sus detalles, pero dejaré eso para cuando quede relativamente muy poco para empezar el viaje. De momento os puedo deleitar con fotos del avión en el que pasaré encerrado 13 horas (la ruta que vuelo es San Sebastián IB 457 Madrid IB 3164 Londres-LHR CX 250 Hong Kong CX 510 Taipei); las imágenes corresponden al trayecto más largo, Londres-Heathrow – Hong Kong, a bordo del vuelo Cathay Pacific CX250, nonstop, con duración de 12 horas en rumbo este, 13 horas cuando vuelva.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Los vuelos San Sebastián – Madrid y su conexión Madrid – Londres-LHR están operados por Iberia. No necesita especial mención. Casi todos hemos volado en Iberia, sabemos cómo funciona. Nada nuevo.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;En cambio, Cathay Pacific es una de las compañías que mejores servicio abordo ofrece a lo largo de todo el mundo en cabina turista. Obviamente, vuelo en turista. Mientras que en Europa estamos acostumbrados a unos estándares muy bajos, los asiáticos ya nos están comiendo. Cathay ofrece PTV (Personal TV), es decir, una pantalla para cada pasajero, ubicado en el respaldo del asiento de enfrente. Además, para aquellos viajeros que dispongan de ordenador portátil, ofrece puerto de conexión de administrador de energía (¡es genial! Puedes volar a 36.000 pies de altura y trabajar como desde casa).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;El último vuelo, Hong Kong – Taipei, también esta operado por Cathay Pacific, en un vuelo de 1 hora y 40 minutos. Haciendo referencia a los estándares de los que hablaba, por poner un ejemplo, Cathay utiliza para hacer esta ruta el mismo avión que Air France utiliza para volar Paris-CDG – Santiago de Chile, un Boeing 777-300. ¿Increíble? ¡Asombroso! At the end of the past week I got my flights confirmed by Bankinter’s travel agency. I’d mention one by one every flight I’ll be in with their respective details, but I’ll just wait longer until the remaining time for departures is even shorter. By now, I’ll just let you know about the aircraft in which I’ll spend 13 hours (I’m flying San Sebastian IB 457 Madrid IB 3164 London-LHR CX 250 Hong Kong CX 510 Taipei); both pictures belong to the longest route to be flown, London-Heathrow – Hong Kong, on board Cathay Pacific CX 250, nonstop service from LHR to HKG, 12 hours eastbound, 13 hours westbound.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Flights San Sebastian – Madrid and the later connection Madrid – London-LHR are both operated by Iberia. Almost everyone of us has tried out Iberia, we already know how it works.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Nevertheless, Cathay Pacific offers one of the best on board entertaining service around the globe, even in economy class. Obviously, I’m flying coach. While in Europe we are satisfied with very low standards, the Asian people around are getting the big pie. Cathay has a PTV (Personal TV) for every passenger in economy class, behind the seat in front of you. What is more, those passengers flying with a laptop or notebook, the aircrafts are equipped with a power port to charge your battery (that’s genius! You can work at 36,000 feet as if you were in your office).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The last flight, Hong Kong – Taipei, is also operated by Cathay Pacific, in a flight that will take 1 hour and 40 minutes. Referring to the standards I previously mentioned, and to make an example, Cathay operates this route with the very same aircraft that Air France uses for it’s long haul route Paris-CDG – Santiago de Chile a Boeing 777-300. Amazing? Just awesome.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I’m more than happy of me going to fly on Cathay Pacific Airways, and what is more, it’s just another way of getting into the Chinese environment before reaching destination. Recientemente, el presidente de Air Nostrum (filial de Iberia) ha reconocido que las de San Sebastián son unas de las rutas más rentables de la compañía. Es por ello que en las últimas temporadas ha optado por ampliar el abanico de destinos desde el aeropuerto guipuzcoano.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;La flota de Air Nostrum está compuesta por cinco modelos distintos de aviones: el AT7, DH3 y F50 de hélices, y el reactor CRJ-200 y su variación en versión más amplia CRJ-900. Air Nostrum ahora dirige los CRJ-900 a su ruta EAS – MAD. Ha optado por sustituir los McDonnell Douglas MD-87 por los McDonnell Douglas MD-82. ¿Diferencia de compañías? Este vuelo iniciará su operatividad en el próximo mes y estará operado por un Airbus A320.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Iberia sigue como siempre. Hace un año sustituyó los dos vuelos que volaba en McDonnell Douglas MD-87 (IB0450, IB0452, IB0453 e IB0457) por los Airbus A319. Aterricé hace poco de Barcelona (BCN) y parece que el proyecto de verano (Taiwán) va cobrando cada vez más forma.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;La empresa: Es una empresa con sede social en Washington DC y que ahora se está implementándose en Taiwán. La empresa vende un producto que analiza el ritmo cardíaco y demás características relativas al corazón, trasfiere la información al ordenador del usuario, y mediante una sincronización con un equipo de médicos, el cliente obtiene un informe del estado actual. El producto permite a los clientes adelantarse a futuros problemas concernientes al corazón.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Estancia en Taipei: Las 8 horas diarias que se trabajan en occidente parecen mucho y se lucha por reducir las jornadas. Según lo que tengo entendido, las jornadas laborales en Taiwán alcanzan las 10 horas diarias, 6 días a la semana. A esto se le llama “trabajar como un chino” (sin ánimo de ofender). El departamento donde trabajaré se llama “Business Development Unit”. I landed few days ago from Barcelona (BCN) and it seems that the project for this summer is starting to take shape (Taiwan).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The company: Headquartered in Washington DC, the company is now establishing itself in Taiwan. El vuelo Iberia IB1460 con destino Bilbao está en embarque con salida prevista a las 19:15; mientras yo espero a mi vuelo Iberia IB8856 a San Sebastián. Delante de mí se encuentra apartado un Airbus A-320 que llevará a los pasajeros del vuelo 1460 a Bilbao. Y me pongo a pensar… ¿por qué Airbus?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Airbus, gran rival de Boeing, y viceversa. Para una compañía aérea son varios los factores que intervienen a la hora de escoger la flota (consumo de combustible, rango máximo de alcance, capacidad de pasajeros, requerimientos de tripulación, etc.). Pero, ¿para un pasajero?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;1.- Nivel de turbulencia: Los Boeing son más pesados y más estables, necesitan más viento para desestabilizarse. Los Airbus son más sensibles al viento y se notan más las turbulencias. &lt;/span&gt; &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2.- Seguridad: Excelente en ambas.&lt;/span&gt; &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;3.- Contaminación acústica: Desde el exterior, un Boeing saca más ruido que un Airbus al despegar o aterrizar. &lt;/span&gt; &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;4.- Consumo de combustible: Los Airbus consumen menos galones de keroseno por kilómetro/pasajero que los Boeing.&lt;/span&gt; &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;5.- Ruido abordo: Aunque los Airbus sean más silenciosos que sus “colegas” americanos (Boeing), dentro de la cabina los Airbus son más ruidosos.&lt;/span&gt; &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;6.- Comodidad: La distribución de asientos depende de la línea aérea, y no del fabricante del avión.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Personalmente prefiero Boeing, la experiencia abordo es ligeramente mejor (por la ausencia de ruido). A few meters forward stands parked the Airbus A-320 aircraft that will take the flight 1460 passengers to Bilbao. And I think to myself, why Airbus?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Airbus is the greatest rival of Boeing, and vice versa. Seeing from an airline’s point of view, there are many factors that take effect when choosing the fleet of the company, such as: fuel consumption, maximum range, passenger capacity, cabin crew requirements, and so on). But, what makes the difference for the passenger?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;1.- Level of turbulence: Boeing aircraft are much heavier and stable, they need more wind to go turbulent. Airbus planes are more sensitive in terms of turbulence. &lt;/span&gt; &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2.- Safety: Excellent in both.&lt;/span&gt; &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;3.- Sound pollution: From the exterior, a take off or landing of a Boeing flight is heart louder.&lt;/span&gt; &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;4.- Fuel consumption: Airbus aircraft are cheaper as long as fuel consumption is concerned, since they need less gallons of fuel per mile per passenger than Boeing. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;5.- Noise onboard: Even if sound pollution of Airbus is less than Boeing, the noise flight onboard is quieter if you’re flying Boeing than if flying Airbus.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;6.- Comfortable: The difference in seat configuration does not depend on the manufacturer, but on the airline. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Personally I prefer Boeing, the experience onboard is slightly better (because of no noise inside the aircraft). El desayuno acaba de ser recogido: un “buen” café y un bollo suizo, acompañados de un zumo de naranja, y para limpiarse las manos la típica toallita húmeda. Ahorraros la pregunta, sí, Business Class.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Todo aquel que compre un billete de Iberia con número de vuelo comprendido entre 8000 y 8999 (serie 8000) volará en una compañía aérea asociada, que se llama Air Nostrum. Todas las cabinas de Air Nostrum están configuradas en formato Business Class: asientos de cuero, azafatas jóvenes y simpáticas (si eres chico no intentes ser azafato de vuelo de Air Nostrum, sólo cogen a las chicas), comida a bordo, etc.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Si tienes un billete de turista ¡enhorabuena! Viajarás en Business. Si tienes un billete de Business habrás pagado por el servicio prestado. TODOS los productos de Apple son más caros que los de su competencia. Nos podemos ahorrar entre 100€ y 200€ a la hora de comprarnos un dispositivo electrónico como un reproductor de música, lo que viene a ser un iPod. En el caso de ordenadores, esta cantidad puede llegar a subir hasta los 1.500€ de diferencia. E increíblemente, la empresa cada vez tiene más cuota de mercado en sus mercados.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Existe un motivo, la diferenciación. Y es que no es lo mismo ir por la calle con un reproductor cualquiera que&lt;a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.pure-mirage.com/images/Gallery_Images/Maya/images/3d_Apple_Logo_102.jpg"&gt;&lt;img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 138px; height: 103px;" src="http://www.pure-mirage.com/images/Gallery_Images/Maya/images/3d_Apple_Logo_102.jpg" alt="" border="0" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt; con un iPod. Esa diferenciación es percibida por el usuario y por consiguiente pagada. Obviamente la calidad del producto es muy elevada y difícilmente equiparable. Lo mismo con las “manzanitas” de los Macs.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;El diseño es un punto muy fuerte de Apple. Los iPods, Macs y resto de artículos de la cartera de productos de Apple destaca por su excepcional y logrado diseño. Pero, ¿corresponde esa diferencia de precio con el “valor” que aporta el excepcional diseño? Próxima parada: Taipei, Taiwán. De pequeño se escoge con qué mano escribir, después con qué amigos salir, más tarde qué estudiar, después con quién compartir el resto de tu vida. Son todas ellas decisiones que afectarán a nuestro futuro. Pero la mayoría de las veces las decisiones son exclusivas. Si decides pasar tus vacaciones en la playa, difícilmente podrás ir a la montaña; si escoges estudiar ingeniería no creo que vuelvas a la universidad seis años después a cursar una arquitectura.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Y la realidad es que para este verano la opción escogida es Taiwán, a la empresa GTMRI (Business Development Unit), teniendo que para ello rechazar otras ofertas. Pero así son las cosas, no se puede tener todo. El mundo es grande (al menos tal y como se ve ahora) y da muchas vueltas, y nunca se sabe si aquello que rechazaste pueda darte una oportunidad.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The decision is made. Next stop: Taipei, Taiwan. When you’re a child you choose which hand to write with, after that you choose which friends to go out with, later on you’ve got to choose how to start your professional career and finally you’ll have to choose who you want to share your life with. Each of those decisions will have an effect on our future; what is more, most of them are exclusive decisions. That is, if you decide to go on vacation to the beach, you’ll hardly go and climb a mountain; if you study for an engineering university degree, you most probably won’t go to university six years later to study architecture.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;And the thruth is that for this summer the selected choice is Taiwan, to the GTMRI company in the Business Develcopment Unit, for which I have had to refuse to some other great job opportunity. But that’s the way things are. Y el mío, el Ryanair FR7153, ha salido a las 13:59. 27 minutos en tierra. Eso es eficiencia, lo demás son tonterías. Un avión de Iberia necesita 55 minutos para hacer lo que Ryanair ha hecho en 27 minutos. Y luego nos preguntamos por qué los billetes de las low-cost son tan baratos, a ver en qué radica la diferencia. Cada minuto que un avión está en tierra la compañía aérea pierde dinero. En esos 27 minutos, en los primeros 5 minutos han desembarcado los pasajeros del vuelo anterior y se han sacado sus equipajes de la bodega del avión. Después se han dejado otros 5 minutos para que el personal del avión reacondicionara el avión (limpiar). A continuación ha comenzado el embarque: 10 minutos. Increíble. Iberia necesita más de 30 minutos para embarcar un avión de 200 pasajeros. En los próximos 7 minutos el avión ha cerrado puertas, han dado instrucciones de seguridad y se han comprobado puertas y salidas de emergencia.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Hay dos modalidades de aviones Ryanair, y estoy viajando en el que tiene más espacio para las piernas. De hecho tiene más espacio que un avión cualquiera de Iberia (en el avión que me llevó a Chile había menos legroom) o Spanair. Eso sí, durante el vuelo te ofrecen mil cosas, hay publicidad en todos los rincones, incluso en la bolsa para vomitar hay publicidad. Mi primer vuelo en una compañía aérea de bajo coste y el número 57 en la lista de vuelos comerciales que he realizado en mi vida. La ambición lleva a esta compañía de bandera irlandesa a cruzar el charco y competir con grandes compañías aéreas. En la actualidad la compañía cuenta con 23 hubs en Europa y pretende establecer vuelos a Boston, Nueva York y Washington. En EEUU volará a aeropuertos “nearby” como los llaman ellos. En Boston seguramente vuelen a Providence, en Nueva York a Long Island y en Washington a Richmond.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;La cuestión es, ¿va a cambiar Ryanair? El reducido espacio de abordo, el embarque sin asientos asignados, el pago de tarifas por equipaje facturado, son hechos que en vuelos de 2 – 3 horas no suponen especial problema teniendo en cuenta el bajo coste de los billetes, pero ¿en un vuelo de 10 horas?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;La alarma ha saltado en Estados Unidos. Los americanos insisten en que el modelo de Ryanair no tendrá éxito en USA. ¿Lo dirán por miedo? Hoy en día mucha gente ha volado ya en Ryanair, easyJet, Vueling o cualquier otro low cost. En él comentaré habitualmente cuestiones de actualidad y de cierto interés para mí, así que espero que compartamos estos intereses y aprovechemos la oportunidad que las últimas tecnologías nos proporcionan para comunicarnos y avanzar en este camino hacia el futuro.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Hablando de futuro, explicación del nombre del blog.
